the other day, for his birthday, we went to Newburyport. it’s just a little jaunt up the road but we hadn’t visited there yet.

it was a fun little “day-cation” {as Husbuddy likes to call it}. we used to do little “day-cations” all the time.  we’d go explore a new place and just spend a day (or a couple of hours) checking it out…but now that rarely happens. it was nice to celebrate his birthday doing something we love: exploring!

we went wine tasting at Mill River Winery .{which to all our local friends: go check it out! they’re brand new and the wines we tasted were really good!} this was a special treat because since Husbuddy is now glutten AND yeast free he can’t have beer any more. our goal was to have a chance to taste test some new kinds of wines so he could know more what he likes :) …and because i LOVE wine. ha. it wasn’t a selfish little gift at all…

then we walked around the town, went in a couple of shops, and went out to dinner. it was so nice. and so christmassy. and so quaint. Newburyport is really cute!

and so is Husbuddy! i am so thankful for my best friend and i’m so thankful he has birthdays to celebrate together!

yup… running a little behind if i’m going to do 52 by the end of the year… oh well!

for today’s sketch-yet more trace paper and architecture. what can i say? i love seeing pretty architecture and i love playing on trace paper. :)

i’m totally in love with this image. i love all the roundy-ness going on. yup. real architecture-speak.

ummmm ya. nope, not really. i’m pretty sure my diploma would be revoked if i said that out loud. i also love the lanterns on either side of the windows. and the view that i can imagine the round room has. awe man. it just looks so fun! i added/changed a few things from the original… just for some more fun.

had any fun with trace paper recently?

i have a little list of birthday prayers today for my love. today Husbuddy is turning 28! this post is just a public celebration of my prayers for him. thanks for praying for him with me. :)

my sweet love, these things i pray for you.

  • i pray for you to be more healthy this year than last.  it’s been a tough one and i hope in my heart that you will be healthy and happy…. to be able to run and frolic with the other kids. haha. no seriously. may you find real God-given-health.
  • i pray for the adventures we’re going to have in your 28th year! new beginnings! new places to explore together! i love exploring with you! we always have so  much fun together and there are so many new places to go this year!
  • i pray for your heart– that you would know true peace in Christ this year. that He may be growing you and molding you constantly more into who He’s created you to be. peace is something that can’t be bought. it can’t be manufactured. it is only given as a gift. may you find Christ’s true peace and may you live in it this year.
  • i pray that i will be able to show you better love this year. i so love being your wife! but sometimes i’m not very good at showing you that. i want to though. please know that i want to be better at loving and respecting you.
  • i pray that God continues to call you. to call you BY NAME. and to call you to His purpose. may you see more and more of God’s calling on your life every day. and may you be up to it-never shrinking from the responsibility and the challenge.

happy birthday my love, my best friend, my Husbuddy!

a little late. but here are some images from our gluten free, dairy free, soy free, and egg free thanksgiving.

{gf/df for husbuddy and sf/ef for our friend…we decided it would just be better to do it together since we’re the difficult ones for a potluck!}

whoo hoo! party on! ha.

no actually, it was ALL really yummy! we didn’t even really notice that we were missing anything! Husbuddy was in charge of the turkey. he did a fabulous job.

and we’re blessed to have some awesome new friends here in G-town! :)

granted… they’re from the south so there were a lot of “y’alls” going on but we just made fun of them for it. haha. ok. not really, we just think they’re really cute when they say y’all.  i wish i had an accent.

we have so much to be thankful… every day. not just thanksgiving. we are truly blessed.

i hope y’all had a wonderful thanksgiving too!

we had to match in our starbucks aprons to make the pies! :) and it got me thinking::

everything i have, i do, i love…everything is from a loving and gracious Father. and i am thankful… to Him. i am blessed. By Him.

“then king David went in, sat in the Lord’s presence and said, “who am I, Lord God, and what is my house that You have brought me this far?”

2 Sam. 7:18

Who am i that i am so blessed? i’m no one, i don’t deserve any of it. but today, and every day,  i’m thankful.

puppycakes is dressed up for the festivities.  he wishes you a happy thanksgiving!

Today’s sketch comes from another pretty doorway::

The sketch::

ok, i have to start this with a little history.

as a girl i LOVED gumball machines. i don’t know what it was about them. they held gumballs-which i was hardly ever allowed to have? they were colorful? they look quaint and old fashioned?  i even remember i had a gumball machine birthday cake once. it cracks me up to think of my obsession.

and then one time i saw someone made a lamp out of one. it was so cute! and they were selling it for like 80$ or something. i loved it but they put fake apples inside. {tragedy!you gotta put gumballs inside!} but i knew right then and there that i wanted one. goofy, i know.

fast forward to last year:: my sweet friends from Princeton and I were garage sale-ing. i saw one for sale. for 5$. i wanted it! but then some old lady stepped in front of my a grabbed it practically out of my hand. sad day. anyway…  my friend Sharon found one for sale last Christmas and gave it to me as a gift because she knew my plan. sweetest thing ever, right? :) i thought so.  i had the machine. now i just had to make it.

then i got cold feet and was afraid i would fail. i put it off all year because i was afraid i would break it, or ruin it or something. that and Husbuddy was afraid it would look tacky.

yesterday i conquered my fears and just did it. ha! ok. maybe it does look a little tacky… but i still love it. :) and wouldn’t it look so cute in a little kiddos’ room someday? {waaaay  in the future, mind you}

ok this is what you need:

my supplies:

  • the gumball machine
  • a lamp kit
  • thread pipe(to screw the light kit into)
  • washers/nuts- to hold the thread pipe in place
  • sharpie
  • light bulb
  • lamp shade
  • and a curious puppy who watched me every second of the whole process (totally optional)

first i figured out the path that the wire would have to go. the wire can’t go all the way through to the bottom because i wanted the gumball machine part to still work. i marked where we needed to drill the holes.

for some reason Husbuddy doesn’t let me use the drill. {i have no idea why!} so i watched him masterfully work… that and get metal shavings all over his wallet. whew, good thing he did that and not me ;)

then i screwed in the thread pipe. you can see it’s a little wonky because i couldn’t put it directly in the center. that’s the hole that you need to screw on the lid to the glass. so, to make it straight i fashioned a couple of pieces of thick leather to hold it straight up and down. {sorry, forgot to take a pic of this.}

then i had to wire it.

to do this i had to take apart the top lamp-kit piece so i could feed the wires through all the holes and up through the threaded pipe. then i used my mad electrician skills {no, not really, it’s super easy} to wire it back together. and look! it works! {and still looks crooked because i hadn’t screwed on the top piece yet}

then when i was trying to pour the gumballs in i found i’d made a mistake putting together the machine… i put in that little rubber piece that holds the bottom of the glass- UPSIDE DOWN! doh.

fail. i would have had to take everything apart and start over. so instead, lazy lil’me,  i improvised and cut it. it’s not perfect, but it works. it still holds the glass correctly, there’s just a little slit in it. i know that i could order a replacement for like 2$ if this ever fails, so i’ll just go with it for now ;)

after i finally got that figured out… i poured in the gumballs and attached the lampshade!

woot woot! i love it! Husbuddy admits that it’s not as tacky as he thought it would be.

what do you think? love it or too tacky?

we explored a new park yesterday! Ravenswood park on the other side of Gloucester was pretty fun. how in the world we haven’t found this little gem before this weekend is beyond me. one of the paths that we walked along was called “Old Salem Road”. it was cool to imagine that we were walking along an old road that horse and wagons used to ride along.

here are some images from our Sunday adventure:

puppycakes was so happy. and husbuddy was too!

puppycakes loves running from one of his persons to the other. so cute.

why is moss so pretty? and fungus on the trees?

the trees were so awesome.

if only we had found this place a couple of weeks ago when the leaves were more radiant!

puppycakes loved looking closely at the leaves too. hilarious.

today is supposed to get into the 60s. if only i could play hooky and go for a walk again today!!oh i loved getting out in nature so much, it’s so good for the soul.

Psalm 16:6-11

“The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.

I bless the Lord who gives me counsel;
in the night also my heart instructs me.
I have set the Lord always before me;
because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.

Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices;
my flesh also dwells secure.
For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol,
or let your holy one see corruption.

 You make known to me the path of life;
in your presence there is fullness of joy;
at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

this scripture is speaking to me today and this path was walked on today. today is truly a gift. my joy is only full in His presence. blessings!

sketch for tuesday is back! i’ve been missing my weekly sketches… who woulda guessed? :)

for today’s sketch i looked at a door that i found last weekend in one of our meanderings around Gloucester. i just enjoy seeing adorable front doors {maybe you’ve noticed?}. i seem to take pictures of them a lot.

isn’t it cute? it makes me so happy. and it makes me think of an awesome restaurant back in my college town called “the red door”. makes me smile. :)  so during my lunch break today, it was a little dose of happiness to sketch this in the middle of a rather stressful day.
