we went for a pretty sweet bike ride today

when i tell people we go mountain biking in NJ, they either look at me like i’m crazy or are really impressed that we’re so hard core…

let me tell you, we’re anything BUT hardcore :)

{even though we like to pretend}… see…

we stop and take lots of pictures,

ride at a slow pace while listening to the twittering birds,

drink lots of water,

walk across pretty bridges  over little creeks,

we gaze at all the various types of trees that exist in this part of the country while pushing our bikes up the hills,

we get a little sweaty in the sunshine because the trails are just so easy breezy,

and we explore lots of new areas around New Jersey that we’d never see otherwise!

so see, really, we’re not THAT hard core, i promise.all that dirt and mud is just to show off.

{although, it IS pretty fun to pretend to be hardcore with my Husbuddy :) }

“Food can fill our stomachs but never our souls.

Possessions can fill our houses but never our hearts.

Sex can fill our nights but never our hunger for love.

Children can fill our days but never our identities.

Jesus wants us to know only He can fill us and truly satisfy us.”

-Lysa Terkeurst “Made to Crave”

I’m reading this book right now. It’s been very good so far! Very thought provoking about what it means to really “crave” God. To desire Him more than all else. To desire Him more than I desire a piece of dark chocolate :)

Has anyone else read it? What did you think?

Happy Day CARDS!

Based on the popularity of this post HERE and a personal request from a dear friend, I decided to put some of my favorite little sketched cards up for sale.

I love the cute handmade flavor and the original sketch.

Don’t tell anyone, but I used Anthropology wallpaper… remember where I talked about ordering some of those free samples here? Ya, well, now i’ve gone and torn them up and used them to make some pretty cards. {please note, i had at least some intention of using the wall paper samples to choose a pretty wallpaper for our walls or a canvas! don’t hate me!} I also used silly little paper doilies, some vintage music, stamped lettering and then I stitched it all up nice and pretty!

Anyway, I’ve been busy this week working on these!

New cards available in my Etsy Shop::

Sure to make just about anyone’s day HAPPY!
Homemade cards made from paper, vintage music, anthropology wallpaper and little pieces of doilies. A sketch of a cute little girl is added with stamped lettering. The piece is finished up with pretty stitching and little pieces of cuteness.
Listing is for 2 cards: 1 yellow and 1 pink as well as 2 envelopes.
All cards are made with love.

After working 11 straight days I decided that I needed to paint this weekend.

There was a little someone who just needed to get out::

So, do you remember this little collage from way back when? Probably not. But it was the one I made for the last girls craft night at my house HEREWell, I pretty much hated it. But I knew that it was only a background and that I would use it to make something better…

So a couple weeks ago I saw this girl in an Anthropology magazine. I promptly tore out the image and glued it down over that stupid singing bird.  Don’t you think this lady looks like Juliette waiting for her Romeo on a balcony? :) So pretty! Thank you Anthro! :)

And there it sat until I had a moment to catch my breath.

Friday I had some free time. I was dead tired from all that work, but I also just needed to be creative. So I went to town. :)I played with the background, keeping with the color scheme, because I actually liked the purples and yellows… and I started to paint over the pretty lady on the balcony.

While I was painting I was thinking about my sweet sister, Becca. I was thinking about life and faith and getting jobs after college and about the sunshine and about Colorado and about how much I miss her. Life lived away from family is so hard sometimes. I wish that I could be more involved in all of my family’s life! In her life! I wish we could just go for a walk together and talk about every day things…

Someday. But all those thoughts about her is why I think this little pretty turned out looking like her :)

Dearest beautiful sister, my prayer for you is that you have faith in God’s providence. HE WILL provide. Your faith will make you even more beautiful.

“…for we walk by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corn. 5:7

Dearest, my prayer for you is that may you have faith. I believe your faith will carry you through every day, even when I’m not there to hold your hand.

“Daughter, your faith has made you well…” Mark 5:34

I prayed for strength, and then I lost awhile

All sense of nearness, human and divine;

The love I leaned on failed and pierced my heart,

The hands I clung to loosed themselves from mine;

but while I swayed, weak, trembling and alone,

The everlasting arms upheld my own.

I prayed for light; the sun went down in clouds,

The moon was darkened by a misty doubt,

The stars of heaven were dimmed by earthly fears,

And all my little candle flames burned out;

But while I sat in shadow, wrapped in night,

The face of Christ made all the darkness bright.

I prayed for peace, and dreamed of restful ease,

A slumber free from pain, a hushed repose;

Above my head the skies were black with storm,

And fiercer grew the onslaught of my foes;

But while the battle raged, and wild winds ble,

I heard His voice and perfect peace I knew.

I thank You, Lord, You were too wise to heed

My feeble prayers and answer as I sought,

Since these rich gifts Your bounty has bestowed

Have brought me more than all I asked or thought;

Giver of good, so answer each request

With Your own giving, better than my best.

have a wonderfully random weekend, friends! xo-kimberly renee.

These are my war-shoes, people.

yes. i’m wearing these shoes just to go down to our apartment’s basement. just to do laundry. it’s my weekly ritual.

it’s that scary.

you may laugh at me for feeling the need to wear rain boots to do my laundry…but i don’t care. laugh!

just don’t say i didn’t warn you.

looks like your typical laundry room…albeit retrofitted whenever they decided that each building needed laundry machines.  {please excuse the lack of lighting down there… the pictures are pretty dark}notice the pipes… husbuddy has to duck down there or he hits his head! and he’s only 5′-11 3/4″! {he made me put the 3/4″ part in there. he’s almost 6′-0″}

oh, wait, let’s take a closer look at the machines… what? what’s behind those machine’s you ask? yes. very green and ugly and thick and growing … it’s mold.

eek. my critical architectural eye just pretends to be blind when i’m down here…in school we learned all about all the things to notice in a failing building… let’s just pretend I don’t know any of that…

i feel like i should hold my breath though as well since the mold is really very dangerous to our health.

let’s see how fast we can do laundry while holding our breath! it feel like a childhood game we played at the pool… but it’s real life.
at least we have a shelf that we can put our detergent on.

Yes. i’m very thankful for my little section of the shelf.

as we walk back up to our apartment i just want to point out a few things.

That little “elevated walkway” is supposed to help when the basement floods (which is about once a week) but I ask you, how a six foot long board can help us to keep our feet dry when on either side we have to step in water anyway??

see, told ya i warned you about wearing rain boots!

i would put a picture up here of the flooded basement… but really i just try to ignore at all costs that we even have a basement on those days… so i don’t dare go down there unless i have to.

ew. as you come to the end of the hallway you see more of the basement ecosystem.

it’s really thriving… maybe we should get a ecologist down here to explain to the world how many different life forms there are in this one ecosystem! it’s an amazing scientific discovery!

i’m sure that in some corners  there are living things that will actually jump out and grab me.

so i don’t go near those areas.

get me outta here!

phew. it’s not as bad up here, right? we’re safe on the first floor now. no flooding…

oh wait a minute for goodness sakes. there’s another completly different ecosystem growing right by the front door! eeek!!

just don’t breathe.

If i don’t breathe then the mold can’t effect me.

seems like the perfect solution to our predicament.

so i run up the second flight of stairs to homebase.

safe from the warzone right in my own building…

or am i?

i just won’t think about it.

if i don’t think about it, it isn’t there and then i don’t have to worry about it.

Seems like a perfectly intelligent way to handle situations in life. Don’tcha think?

Friends, these are the thoughts that haunt me every week while i do my laundry. I actually used to kind of like laundry… the smell of doing laundry…

enjoy your laundry for me this week, will ya? take a big sniff of all the fresh smells. smile as you laugh at the bliss of your situation. thanks. :)

Check out this E-Zine by Layla & Kevin! They’ve complied a little collection of renovation and decorating ideas. It’s very inspiring and so fun to flip through!

My title in life at the moment is: AIT.

Architect In Training.

Those letters are all around me. It’s at the end of my work emails. it’s on my business card. it’s on my linkedin profile. Some days I’m not sure I deserve what those letters mean. And some days I’m not sure I want them…

Well, today, was one of the few days that i felt like i really was what those letters said.  It actually felt, just a little bit true.

probably mostly because this was pointed out to me:

hee hee. they have my number right there on the job site if they need a burning question answered. :-p

in honor of feeling a little bit like an architect today i thought i’d share a little bit of a project:

Let’s go on a job site tour, shall we?

So there’s a sweet little project going on right around the corner from our office. We’ve been checking in and taking pictures of the process. I thought you might like to join in on the excitement around here!

this project is really just very sweet, dontcha think?  it’s a master bedroom suite. it’s going to be beautiful.

dear Friends! Thanks for coming on my little project tour with me!
